BCSB in Washington, DC
Each grade took the MARC train down to DC the week before school let out. The boys
visited the U.S. Capitol, the offices of Bloomberg Government with Board Member
Josh Eastright, The Newseum, courtesy of Bloomberg Government, the Air and Space
Museum, the Washington Monument, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and the
Sculpture Garden at the National Gallery of Art.

Athletics
We have been ambitious in this first year, wanting to provide Collegiate boys with
the best opportunities we can find. We reached for a rowing team with a former U.S.
Naval Academy rowing coach who volunteered his time every Friday afternoon this
spring. The Collegiate boys in the boat represent our dream for success for every
boy at BCSB: achievement comes through hard work and dedication.
Over the past two weeks we have honored high achievement in academics and athletics.
Our Spring Sports Banquet was overflowing with families celebrating team and individual
achievement in basketball, wrestling, swimming, baseball, lacrosse, track and field,
rowing, and chess.

Prize Day and Closing Ceremonies
A few days later we held our first Prize Day, where high achievement in academics
and character was honored at the War Memorial. Our boys donned their ties one more
time to celebrate the end of our Founding Year. Before the ceremony, we posed for
picture in front of City Hall (see below). This is a fitting portrait of who we
are. Each Collegiate boy is a beacon of hope for the city that deserves well educated
leaders - young men emboldened with five smooth stones: courage, compassion, integrity,
wisdom and resilience.
