PETER ORSZAG: The “cap-and-punt approach” to deficits, evident in Paul
Ryan's budget plan, is unlikely to reduce the U.S. deficit
significantly. Instead of caps on overall spending, “the coming debate
should focus on substantial expansion of stimulus, via automatic
stabilizers, with specific and credible, but delayed, deficit

JOHN O’BRENNAN: If Ireland votes "No" on the referendum to ratify
Europe's new fiscal treaty, "it's highly unlikely that the euro-area
governments, or the European Central Bank, would punish Ireland for
rejecting the treaty by cutting off its lifeline. Doing so would amount
to collective suicide." [Link]

MARGARET CARLSON: Mitt Romney's campaign resume has a glaring omission

CLIVE CROOK: Whether or not Greece keeps the euro, "Europe needs to
drop its blithe commitment to 'ever closer union' and adopt a more
discriminating approach . . . union where necessary, national

should now expect in a world free from bubbly delusions of constant

EDITORS write, the P5+1 negotiators face a dilemma: "Remove sanctions
too soon and the Iranians will go back to the holding pattern of the
past six years, as they continue to develop their nuclear program while
stringing talks out; set the bar for relief too high, and the Iranians
