JOSH BARRO: Small, corruption-filled locales like Sunland Park, New
Mexico shouldn’t exist as cities. “The best way to protect residents of
these impoverished places is to end the jurisdictions in their current
form, reconstituting them in a way that officials are more likely to be

NOAH FELDMAN: “In the Internet age, the most up-to-date censorship is
all about allowing partial, temporary free speech, then shutting it
down once enough has been said.” Just look at the censorship model
employed by Chinese microblog Sina Weibo. Its users are awarded points,
which monitors take away for violations. “If you run out of points,

LUIGI ZINGALES:“The current regulatory system runs into problems with
coordination and the communication of information.” The third excerpt
from “A Capitalism for the People: Recapturing the Lost Genius of
American Prosperity" proposes creating three agencies to address the
principle goals of regulation: price stability, protecting “the little
guys” and systemic considerations. [Link]

THE EDITORS: “The annual bill for treating the medical problems of the
U.S.'s 12.5 million obese children runs to $14 billion.” To help the
young obese return to good health we need more aggressive strategies.
One idea: discourage TV ads for unhealthy foods by eliminating their
tax deductibility. [Link] And in space, THE EDITORS write, private
company SpaceX not only succeeded in linking to the International Space
Station, it did so for less than NASA would have spent on the venture.
That's a good sign for the “post-shuttle world.” [Link]
