As you may or may not know, Mimi's and my youngest son Richard received an autism
spectrum diagnosis at age 12 months. At the time of Richards's diagnosis 14 years
ago, the prevalence rate for this diagnosis was 1 in 166 children. This rate has
now soared to 1 in 88 children (1 in 54 boys). Given this terrifying trend, as
well as my deep respect for the Autism Speaks organization, I am pleased this year
to again be serving as the Sponsorship Chair for the Autism Speaks 5K race. Joining
me in this effort, BOWA will be the Presenting Sponsor.

I am writing to solicit your participation in finding a cure for autism. Autism
Speaks, the nation's leading nonprofit organization devoted to autism, has set
a goal to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders
by funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments,
and cure for autism; raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals,
families, and society; and bringing hope to all who deal with this disorder. Over
76% of the dollars raised go directly toward these efforts.

July 4th, 2012 will mark the 12th Anniversary of the Autism Speaks 5K race/1 mile
walk. For the past eleven years, the generous support of our sponsors, donors
and participants has made this event tremendously successful, contributing over
$2 million to Autism Speaks. Last year there were nearly 2,500 participants, 50
sponsors and over 80 volunteers. This community oriented event is for both competitive
runners and families with children of all ages, and is a wonderful start to Independence
Day. Last year Autism Speaks launched the "Run Anywhere" initiative. Runners and
walkers who can't be with us on July 4th can compete and participate wherever they
might be. They register via the website, get their event shirt in advance and join
us virtually on July 4th. You can run and raise money for autism anywhere.

I hope that you will consider contributing to our continued success by becoming
a donor to the event, participating in the event, or ideally doing both. Both are
