Hunter -- The United States was founded on the premise that everyone is created equal. We still need to work to uphold that commitment, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. The truth is, equality matters. Equality matters because every one of us deserves the opportunity to reach our potential. Everyone should have the right to marry. Everyone should get a fair paycheck. Everyone should have access to a good education. Equality is fundamental to “equal opportunity,” which is the bedrock of our Constitution. We've come a long way in a year: marriage equality is now the law of the land. But we saw last week in the horrific tragedy in Orlando, that the LGBT community is still a target. We've seen more women become college presidents, CEOs, and elected officials. But still today many women make less than their male counterparts for the same work. And while we work in Congress and here in Massachusetts to fight for educational equity, still today a child's zip code too often determines his or her opportunity for a good education. We can, and must, do better. This week, you'll be hearing from members of our team and community about why equality matters to them. They speak of America, and remind us that there’s still work to be done to live up to our founding ideals.
