Dear Board of Directors, Two quick announcements: § Chairman Mike Rogers<http://www.politico.com/story/2014/03/mike-rogers-michigan-house-intelligence-committee-105127.html#ixzz2xGLtzOJ9> announced this morning that after a 14 year career in the House, he will be retiring at the end of this term and joining Cumulus, the second largest operator of radio stations in the country. While the timing changes the scope of our conversation, Rogers will have an enormous platform given that Cumulus reaches 150 million listeners via radio and digital media. Rogers said "As I close this chapter, please know that I am not finished with the effort to bring back American 'exceptionalism'... You may have lost my vote in Congress, but not my voice." I believe he will remain a very influential voice. Tuesday night will be an important opportunity for us to engage him on our issues as we seek to counter isolationism, particularly on the right. Politico - Mike Rogers to Retire, Headed to Radio<http://www.politico.com/story/2014/03/mike-rogers-michigan-house-intelligence-committee-105127.html#ixzz2xGLtzOJ9> § After a long wait, President Obama announced his intention to nominate Alfonso E. Lenhardt for Deputy USAID Administrator, a likely successor to Raj Shah should he leave before the end of the President's term. I am sure, like me, many of you met Ambassador Lenhardt as he served as our Ambassador to Tanzania since 2009. His background looks like a USGLC coalition spreadsheet - he has non-profit and private sector experience, and retired from the U.S. Army in 1997 as a Major General with more than 30 years of service. We certainly look forward to working with him once he is confirmed. Here is his bio: http://tanzania.usembassy.gov/ambassador.html I look forward to seeing most of you next week. We have a lot to discuss - particularly how the emergence of foreign policy is impacting the politics of the 2014 and 2016 elections.
