Let me know the next time you’re in New York. I want to introduce you to my good friend, Eddie Stern. He owns Ashtanga Yoga New York (http://ayny.org <http://ayny.org/>) in Soho and is a super cool guy. He is old school Ashtanga. No BS other than he’s really funny and used to be a hardcore rocker with a mohawk.

Besides owning a studio, he’s doing really incredible side projects. Working with the Sonima Foundation (http://www.sonimafoundation.org <http://www.sonimafoundation.org/>) which is a health and wellness curriculum that is currently implemented in certain school districts around the country. They’re looking to expand to Chicago so I’m helping them with that. Sonima has a side project called Urban Yogis (http://ashtangayogaoutreach.org/urban-yogis/ <http://ashtangayogaoutreach.org/urban-yogis/>) which Eddie started under the Ashtanga Yoga Outreach program. It takes kids from the projects and gets them off the streets by teaching them yoga and yogic principles - to apply as a personal practice as well as training them to become TA’s of the urban yogis programs in partner schools. They get a stipend but more importantly, they get off the streets and they’re given a second chance.

You can check out more of the Urban Yogis stories and more on Eddie here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdrUeeBIMbrKiDzK_NTPBH_taIKaEIv3z <https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdrUeeBIMbrKiDzK_NTPBH_taIKaEIv3z>

I like "Michael’s Story” - Video 5.

Here’s another video of Eddie from 2012: http://www.nytimes.com/video/t-magazine/100000001375299/on-yoga.html <http://www.nytimes.com/video/t-magazine/100000001375299/on-yoga.html>

Anyways, he’s really cool and his studio is my favorite in the states. You need to meet him.
