Sponsor An Animal...Save a Life...

Help pups like Adrian who is currently living in a crate outdoors at an overcrowded
rural shelter

Our HT animal sponsor program features

but a few of the hundreds of animals HomewardTrails is asked to rescue each week.

Space and

money are our greatest barriers to saying yes to each request.

As a supporter of HT, you can help a great deal by making a donation [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001aNSltc3_4rw4lTGbjKoV9j-kFIWvp1iXAXl29wTdaZ3y6UuEqORquNz2CJW7jt-5gvic18KWRyE_Gh8458Gmn73GO9v3x_XuC0ZoLCzVgPs-oz54aEXMH75EzJ9MOR6ZTNQ4O1-76r1fmxJ0MN5peFrEM0WKE3kjylg-opZhb17O6oMH7rBChVr57CPSVA--WFZesTOLiDUno1A4aGoR6g4onYp6p7xnJe68l3VAtzLDLvWfP7_1BDN-oYtwU9VU&c=xfTIHAoQiaa_G34aA-YJgMm1B4Rx42vaty7H9_n9MylcNkmdhBCv-g==&ch=3OYZpn02NBizJG5Qy5qrA7LJBY7mIErYvHEQJ2bpi4osf--SpuYU7Q==]
to offset the costs to rescue one of these animals.

On average, it costs approximately $150 to rescue each dog and $100 to rescue each
cat. This includes basic vet care provided by the shelters, fuel for transport,
staff time, additional vaccines and housing once they arrive at HT.

We are now offering our wonderful family of HT supporters the opportunity to donate
[http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001aNSltc3_4rw4lTGbjKoV9j-kFIWvp1iXAXl29wTdaZ3y6UuEqORquNz2CJW7jt-5P35_aqiWWbZR69e_hrzWSVSwGZQyUkPiMnJrYW92r5_JlqqqDgSktxF0HTrgkgaQNtwSuANOiiz-ni0pau0qpLrnCrFZbDTXIM0rsf0m_JMZq4kA3hD4okz4V1QNedNZpj3VjS7AD5-VGLjvmyUrfkBarN9CmfmdzOi1p5QT7IdxHau3HEqklGCf9iyedulV&c=xfTIHAoQiaa_G34aA-YJgMm1B4Rx42vaty7H9_n9MylcNkmdhBCv-g==&ch=3OYZpn02NBizJG5Qy5qrA7LJBY7mIErYvHEQJ2bpi4osf--SpuYU7Q==]to

Featured Cat
Meet Daphne - the now FAMOUS blind kitty
Daphne was found outside with her eyes completely infected, in horrible pain and
facing euthanasia if treatment was not possible right away. We have no idea how
a kitten of this size in such horrible condition even survived a day on her own.
We have never seen a kitten in so much pain before. HT stepped up to take her in
immediately and within 10 days after addressing her severe anemia, and the round-the-clock
care by her foster mom, she had surgery to remove both eyes.
She is now in foster loving life with her best friend, a Mastiff. She now needs
a loving forever home. You would almost not know Daphne is blind by the way she
gets around...she is the most inspirational little kitty ever....playing with toys,
running up stairs...she is a true wonder kitty!
She was even covered in this news piece [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001aNSltc3_4rw4lTGbjKoV9j-kFIWvp1iXAXl29wTdaZ3y6UuEqORquIqn7EZ_tccfI8oD9ri2zej2Awaog7QJ-UOf0wTOBo8rzmut4M76mdbQxZnylSsxcJ6t1TOW5v7wdUx1Aj3myJtUgIyI6tMNBQV8pVffGGkbPgR0oTb8p3ReeohkHx2YwxyZkOvBmDmwY8EPuWSgPQ3lfr-oO5NhS3zdiXpsF8YfeS0vD9X4kcM=&c=xfTIHAoQiaa_G34aA-YJgMm1B4Rx42vaty7H9_n9MylcNkmdhBCv-g==&ch=3OYZpn02NBizJG5Qy5qrA7LJBY7mIErYvHEQJ2bpi4osf--SpuYU7Q==]

Marigold - 3 Legged Beauty

Poor Marigold spent years living outdoors at a hoarders. She had no love, no bed,
no medical care...and the entire time she wobbled around on 3 legs.
Marigold came to us almost a year ago and is STILL looking for a loving home.
She is very sweet and loves a home environment. She's great with other dogs and
cats...she just is shy and can become scared quickly. She needs a quiet, patient
home and a loving family. Can that be you?
Marigold wants nothing more than to be with a family for the holidays. Please,
please share her story....she will warm your heart!

*Help Birdie Feel Better

Birdie is a sweet, seven year old cat who was abandoned at the shelter along with
her sister. Unfortunately, her sister was adopted, and she was left alone. When
we rescued Birdie we found that she loves people and a nice sunny spot to sit
in, but she was very thin. After taking her to the vet we discovered she has hyperthyroid.
Although this was initially controlled with medication, we then learned that Birdie
can no longer take medicine and she has had a rough time ever since.

Thanks to a generous donor Birdie was able to undergo Radio Cat (a radiation treatment
to help her thyroid disorder) this October. We believe this may alleviate her disease.
However, she will likely need a second treatment because her thyroid levels are
so high. Birdie also has left us quite a bill with our vet for all the emergency
visits and pre-op bloodwork. We need funds to cover the cost of Birdie's medical
care. Can you help?

*Help Keep Norman from Starving
Can you help us help Norman? He is a beautiful 3 year-old Australian Shepherd mix
that Homeward Trails rescued from a hoarding situation this summer. This poor boy
has an issue with his esophagus that is preventing the food he is eating from getting
into his stomach. He has kept himself from starving to death by twisting himself
about to force the food into his stomach. Norman is going to need significant amount
of testing and possibly surgery. Additionally, Norman needs to eat while sitting
upright in the "begging" position. He needs a special chair called a Bailey Chair,
built to support him in this position while he eats. Please help us ease these
costs.

On October 25 & 26th, students from James Madison University participating in Alternative
Break spent the weekend volunteering at our Adoption Center. Our dogs LOVED the
extra one-on-one time and our Center staff appreciated the extra hands cleaning
& organizing. We are so appreciative of these students spending their break with
our dogs!

HUGE Thanks to Arthur, George & Maggie Nichols who visited our Feline Friends at
Kitty City and brought donations they had collected.

Thank you PetsRMe petsitters for hosting a fundraising and donation drive which
brought in lots of donated goods and over $700 in monetary donations.

The Petco Foundation raised $132 for HT through the Be a Lifesaver campaign. Thank
you!
Thanks to everyone who orders from Barkbox. We raised $21 this month.
A big shout out to Fairlington Presbyterian Church for raising $152 from their
Blessing of the Animals event.
Wow! Petco Unleashed of Falls Church donated over $1000 worth of food and treats
for our dogs. Thank you!
Big Dogs Off Road and Tacoma World raised $1013 for Homeward Trails through the
Big Dogs Off Road Tacoma World Benefit held in Gore, VA. Amazing!
Thank you to Girl Scout Troop 1566 who spent their Friday evening at the Adoption
Center learning about Homeward Trails and pet adoption.
Thanks to the wonderful team of volunteers from Booz Allen Hamilton for spending
their Sunday volunteering at the Adoption Center.
Volunteers from the Cornell Club of Washington DC were a tremendous help with cleaning
and organizing projects at the HT Adoption Center. Thank you!
