EXCLUSIVE - FOREIGN COMPANIES PUSH FOR INFRASTRUCTURE SPENDING: The Organization for International Investment, which represents foreign companies with American subsidiaries, is out with a letter (http://politi.co/kWSN5i) today to House and Senate freshmen to highlight the link between infrastructure spending and competitiveness. On Thursday, three executives - Dennis Slagle, CEO of North American Trucks, Pierre Gauthier CEO of Alstom US, and Jim Hasler, VP of CNH Construction Equipment, will be on Capitol Hill to meet with House Transportation Committee Chairman John Mica, House Transportation Highways Subcommittee Chairman John Duncan, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) and Assistant House Minority Leader James Clyburn. The organization has met about 20 times with House and Senate committees that oversee transportation issues. Asked how the group expects to gain traction for more spending when Congress is talking about cutting the deficit, OFII chief executive Nancy McLernon said, "Historically, the quality of U.S. infrastructure has been a key factor in attracting global companies to set up shop and manufacture here. ... Although we face fiscal hurdles, policymakers with the future firmly in their vision can show decisive leadership by calling for action on this issue." The organization is also planning a small online advertising campaign this summer aimed at branding the OFII and explaining the important role U.S. subsidiaries play in our economy. Eric D.
