I know SmartSynch had separate relationships with Battelle, but their meetings in Ohio with AEP you set up couldn't have hurt..... http://smart-grid.tmcnet.com/topics/smart-grid/articles/168799-battelle-picks-smartsynch-gridrouter-module-its-active-demand.htm Battelle Picks SmartSynch GridRouter Module for its Active Demand Management System Battelle, an independent research and development organization, announced that it has picked the SmartSynch GridRouter communications module to serve as the Home Energy Manager (HEM) component for complimenting its Active Demand Management System (ADM). Story continues below ↓ In a release, Mani Vadari, Battelle’s Vice-President of Energy Infrastructure, said, “SmartSynch’s GridRouter enables all of the variables in the Demand Response equation to communicate across multiple networks.” “We’ve worked diligently on product testing for more than a year, and the simple fact is the GridRouter’s utilization of high-bandwidth cellular networks uniquely qualifies it to manage the continuous stream of two-way, real-time data, commands and other content occurring within a home or commercial building,” Vadari added. According to Battelle sources its ADM enables real-time pricing and pre-programmed home energy management. It s expected that the system will debut as a pilot as part of AEP Ohio’s gridSMART Demonstration Project including 1,000 customers. It has been designed to offer 110,000 central Ohio homes and businesses with energy management capabilities as well as improving energy efficiency and reliability. The AEP Ohio’s gridSMART Demonstration Project officials said that 1,000 of the 110,000 participants will receive the GridRouter-based HEM, which will offer an automated interface. This will help consumers pre-program settings to control home heating/cooling, water heaters and appliances according to their preference. It will also enable them to have greater control over their energy consumption. Battelle sources added that their system can manage commercial loads, distributed generation and distributed storage, and to further optimize the solution, they incorporate wind and weather forecasts, too. Stephen Johnston, SmartSynch’s Chief Executive Officer remarked, “It’s a great accomplishment when the world’s largest independent R&D organization chooses to work with you on a smart grid innovation of this magnitude.” Johnston pointed out that as utilities evolve, the demand in management strategy moves from load shedding to load shaping. There will be more emphasis on intermittent renewables and energy storage. In such cases products like GridRouter can help integrate them onto the grid in order to realize the full potential. In May 2009 SmartSynch provided smart grid services infrastructure products and services to the Gila River Indian Community Utility Authority (GRICUA) on the Gila River Indian Reservation outside Phoenix, Arizona.
