Last week, Ann Barry, our Grants Administrator, made 42 phone calls
to dancers across the country to announce that they had been awarded
a Caroline H. Newhouse grant -

Moments like these are uplifting. Grants are awarded six times a
year, and once again we are reminded of how meaningful our grants are
to dancers in forging their new beginnings when dance is no longer an
option.

In our offices in New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago, our Career
Counselors witness career plans being formed, self-reflection,
empowerment, goal setting, transitions, volunteers donating their
time, and the generosity of our donors. Big and small transformations
on the road to new beginnings take place every day; sometimes it's
the start of a budding new career or acceptance into a school
program, and other times it's as simple as sharing your story with a
career counselor, or developing a new outlook on an old challenge.

This time of year calls for reflection on the past while planning for

The Falling Down Process

The following is an excerpt from an essay from Mitzi Adams, entitled

our supplemental career choices directly impact our longevity and
contribution to the preservation of the dance world.

We, as dancers, know what Martha Graham meant by saying "Technique is
Freedom." Very true, but knowledge is also freedom. By supplementing
our dance lives with either dance related, or non-related interests,
we can not only support ourselves financially, but can also satisfy
the creative, curious, and intellectual sides of ourselves. We can
still be in dance but we need to adapt our lives accordingly to fit
within the framework of our times.

Computer Classes in Los Angeles offered free of charge through Career
Transition For Dancers
Register Now for January 2012 Classes

Career Transition For Dancers' Los Angeles office is partnering with
the Los Angeles School District and The Actors Fund to provide
computer classes for dancers of all ages and computer skill levels.
All fees and registration costs are waived for those who are eligible
for a Grant with Career Transition For Dancers, West Coast. Please
