Dear Hunter,

The curtain closed last week on the 48th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Much of the commentary focused, as usual, on various political appearances and prognostications on issues ranging from Brexit and the future of Europe, to trade relations between the US and China, to slowing global growth, to democracies under threat from nativist/populist leaders, to countless other questions on the official WEF agenda.

However, in my view, a subterranean change is emerging from a combination of complex geopolitics, challenging macroeconomics, and transformational technologies. The convergence of these change drivers has created the most fundamental global paradigm shift since the fall of the Berlin Wall some 30 years ago. Every facet of the global business value chain is being transformed….from strategy to product design, to production to supply chains, to consumer engagement and product life cycles/disposal/recycling. And while many “on the mountain” were discussing “Globalization 4.0,” a more subtle but undeniable shift is underway toward “multi-localism”.
