To All Members of the Sidwell Friends School Community: It is a special pleasure to announce that I have appointed Shereen Beydoun to serve as our Lower School Principal at Sidwell Friends effective July 1, 2012. Currently in her seventh year as the Lower School Principal of The Hewitt School in New York City, Shereen has achieved distinction for her commitment, vision, compassion, and skill in supporting all the constituents— parents, staff, teachers, and above all, students— in an ambitious independent school community. Admired and respected by all at Hewitt, she possesses the vision to lead our elementary division in its commitment to strong academics, Quaker values, service to others, and environmental stewardship. Shereen Beydoun graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in Sociology. She completed two advanced degrees at Columbia University—in Education Policy and Education Administration. Prior to assuming the leadership of Hewitt’s Lower School, Shereen served as K-6 division head at Kew Forest School in New York. In addition to her extensive administrative experience, Shereen has been a classroom teacher at every grade level between kindergarten and 7th grade. I also want to take this opportunity to thank the Lower School teachers who served on the Principal Search Committee, as well as our search consultants from Educator’s Collaborative. Together they developed an outstanding pool of candidates and designed processes for interviews and campus visits that gave us all opportunities to evaluate the candidates. Parents, students, teachers, and trustees participated in a process that was exceptionally fair and inclusive. My thanks go out to all of them. In the years ahead, we will enjoy the privilege of continuing the growth and progress of our Lower School division with the support of this visionary and articulate teacher and administrator. I know that Shereen looks forward to meeting all of you over the course of the coming months. She plans to visit several times prior to July 1.
