Colleagues, Friends, and Family-

2011 has been a year of tremendous transition, learning, and growth for me
personally and professionally. Each of you has played a key role in helping
me consider pathways forward, learning how to navigate new challenges, new
practices, and new opportunities. Some of you have hired our new firm to
execute strategies to preserve and create good jobs in the clean economy and
health care industries. Others of you have been partners in that work.
Many more of you have taken the time to patiently answer questions or to
provide essential encouragement as I leaned forward into new arenas.

I send you the warmest of holiday greetings and best wishes for the new
year, and my thanks and gratitude for your help in shaping solutions on so
many fronts. Below is a poem written by a wonderful family friend, David
Budbill, who along with Claudia Horwitz presided over my wedding to
Katherine Kirsch 10 years ago this past October.

Gratitude

I see more and more clearly
as I grow older how gratitude
is at the center of my life, at
the center of all life, how it is
the core of living. Without it
life is bitter and inconsolable.

Yet, it seems so hard to really
be grateful for this life, most
especially when we are young,
which is why we need to be
grateful for the older ones
among us who can teach us
how to say thank you
for our lives.
