Monthly Newsletter from JVC Northwest with news, updates, resources, & job opportunities. Election week illuminated that we are a country divided and that before us lies a long road to bring about the Reign of God in our country and the world. People feel disenfranchised, forgotten, threatened, and fearful. JVC Northwest stands committed to efforts rooted in our four core values to engender reconciliation, respect, inclusion, equity, and love: We will continue to build community where there is room for ALL at the table. We will continue to strive for social and ecological justice so that all who find themselves on the margins of our communities will have fullness of life and that our Mother Earth will be protected. We will continue to focus on simple living, creating sustainable ways of being so everyone has what they need and placing value on relationships and living joyfully. We will continue to encourage living a deep spirituality, ensuring our efforts are grounded in the God of Love and Abundance, and are respectful of all communities of faith. We are each called to embark on the journey before us, to be engaged, to be open to listening to the voice of the other and try to understand, to stand up for those most vulnerable, and to walk together. Thomas Merton offers this wisdom in a time of uncertainty: You do not need to know precisely what is happening or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and the challenges offered by the present moment and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope. - Jeanne Haster, Executive Director JVC Northwest News JVC Northwest is Hiring! Join our team as the Development & Communications Coordinator JVC Northwest is seeking applications for our Development & Communications Coordinator. Based at our office in Milwaukie, OR (just south of Portland), the Development & Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the production and mailing of fundraising appeals, maintaining the donor database, researching and assisting with grant opportunities, managing media relations and external communications, and administrative tasks such as running donor reports, updating content of the donation pages on the website, and preparing thank you letters and gift acknowledgements. Click here for more information on the application process. Help us “meet” 60 new potential JVs! Send them the JV Interest Form Do you know anyone who may want to learn more about becoming a JV? Encourage them to fill out our JV Interest Form- a way for potential applicants to learn more and ask questions. We’re asking for your help meeting 60 potential applicants by Nov. 30, as part of our 60th Anniversary. JVs overwhelmingly share that encouragement from FJVs, family, and mentors is why they apply. Your outreach, your encouragements, and your stories are vital to helping fill positions in the Northwest. Even a simple message sharing "Hey, I think you might be interested in this" can go a long way. With this link, please write, text, email, call, tweet, or tag folks today who might be interested in a year of service. Join Our “60 at 60” Bequest Campaign: 60 Gifts for the Future A gift of any size can make a lasting difference To commemorate JVC Northwest’s 60 years of service with those living on the margins of society, we have set a goal to welcome 60 new members to our Legacy Circle. Just as the Jesuit Volunteer experience has left a lasting impact on many of you, you can leave your own legacy by including JVC Northwest in your estate plans. The purpose of the Legacy Circle is to recognize those individuals who have promised to leave a future gift to JVC Northwest after their passing. If you plan to or have already made arrangements to give a gift to JVC Northwest in your estate, please let us know so we may properly thank you. For questions or more information, please contact Anne Douglas, Director of Advancement, at (503) 335-8202 or adouglas@jvcnorthwest.org. Join CVN for a weekend retreat and enjoy the opportunity to get away from the busyness of life and join with others in the spirit of discernment. These retreats are made available free of charge thanks to the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. Travel stipends are also available. Retreats will take place all across the U.S. in the upcoming months. Click here for more details. JVC Northwest Recommends Below are things being discussed in the JVC Northwest community. Do you have a blog, book, movie, podcast, song, poem, article, etc. you want to share? Email Sarah. NWEI’s self-led discussion courses are designed to spark shared learning, stories, and action. Each course book also includes tips and guidelines to help facilitators organize a course. Participants read each week’s material (which may include brief articles, book excerpts and/or links to online content) on their own. During each session, group members take turns facilitating by leading others through discussion questions provided in the course book. We suggest you try their Voluntary Simplicity course.
