All, Forgive me for resending this email but I am afraid it did not make it through last time. It is vitally important that we get your input for new Board members. Please see the previous email and memo below. Thanks so much. --Skip All, The nominating committee met today advancing the cause of filling two empty Board spots; the COB and a standard opening. While the committee has started the process of creating a priority list, the knowledge of the body as a whole would be most helpful. To that end, while you celebrate the long holiday weekend and enjoy the finer points of summer, we would ask that you consider those people that you know that would be strong assets to the ZERO Board. These people do NOT necessarily need to be high-profile personalities. Rather we are looking for those powerful and connected people that fly below the radar or the spouses/significant others/family members of high profile personalities. A short and very incomplete list of member assets is provided to assist you in your thinking. Skill Sets Needed African American Women Political savvy Business Acumen Gravitas Network Capable Give or Get Finance Connected to PCA Passion I have also provided a copy of a short memo on the functions, responsibilities and requirements of Board member. The nominating committee will greatly appreciate any and all help that you can provide. Thanks so much. The memo excerpt follows. --Skip The Board of Directors of ZERO The Project to End Prostate Cancer (ZERO) is charged with achieving the organization¹s mission of ³zero prostate cancer² through strategic direction and oversight of ZERO¹s management. The Board consists of 13 members who need not be residents of the District of Columbia. All new members are elected by an affirmative vote of a majority of Board members. There are no term limits. There is also an honorary Medical Advisory Board for medical professionals but it is unrelated to the full Board. Each member is expected to participate in at least three meetings a year. Board by-laws stipulate that the annual meeting should occur on the first Tuesday in June at ZERO¹s offices unless otherwise altered by consensus of the Board. In 2011, members will be expected to participate in a minimum of three meetings a year, with two of those meetings being face-to-face in a location to be determined by the Board. All other meetings, as deemed necessary, will occur telephonically. In general telephonic meetings last 60 to 90 minutes, while in-person meetings can last two hours or more. Each member will participate on at least one Board committee. The current committee structure includes the following: executive committee, finance committee, audit committee and nominating committee. The Board may elect to add committees as it deems them necessary. The Board will try to assign members to committees that are of interest to them and commensurate with their expertise. Membership to the Board of Directors is extended to those individuals who show extraordinary support for ZERO¹s mission. Prospective members may possess and wish to share business and fundraising acumen, strategic leadership, innovative program capacities, and/or unique perspectives on the opportunities and obstacles facing the organization as it seeks to fulfill its mission. Each member is expected to use his or her talents to help the organization rapidly, efficiently, effectively, and ethically attain the goals decided on by the Board. Board members are not remunerated for their service.
