Dear [[P_AltHouseholdSalutation]], Attached you will find the power point and handout that was distributed at last night's 10th grade parent meeting with the college counseling office. The evening was not a "college presentation" but rather an overview of testing that is part of the college admissions process. The purpose of the evening's presentation was to review the definition of testing as well as its role in the college process. Please see the attachments to this email as they explain what was discussed. Students typically will sit for the SAT or ACT in the Spring of their junior year. Please note that your son or daughter will have three data points to review with their college counselor prior to the spring of their junior year regarding what is the appropriate test for he or she to concentrate and prepare. The three data points: 1. 10th grade PSAT Results (will be available in December 2016).* 2. Sidwell will offer 10th graders a chance to sit for a Mock ACT on May 3,2017 and the results should be available in early June. * 3. As juniors, your son/daughter will sit once again for the 11th grade PSAT in October 2017. * *Please note: These results are not shared with any colleges. Individual sophomore parent meetings occur with a member of the college counseling team from Wednesday, January 4, 2017 - Thursday, January 12, 2017. Individual sophomore parent meetings are scheduled only during this time as the college counseling team is committed to working with juniors and seniors. If this timing does not work the same will be offered during June 2017 exams. On Friday, December 9, 2016 sophomore parents will receive an email with instructions on how to sign up for the 30 minute parent- only meeting. This will be an online process. Note: Office hours are between 8:30 am - 3:30 pm and appointments will not be available before or after school. When signing up - you will be scheduled to meet with a member of the college counseling team. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with you family and loved ones.
