Club Pink Parents - First, I wanted to thank you for your efforts in getting your daughters to and from practices, games and tournaments this season. You set a good example for the girls of team commitment and effort all season long. Because of you, we did not need to play man/girl down or forfeit a game all season long. Second, I believe we all learned a lot at the two tournaments. Despite playing larger, more experienced and sometimes older teams, we competed hard and had many victories. What stood out to me the most was the difference in stick skills we saw. The U13 teams from Baltimore and Long Island have stick skills that rival our local high school levels. That means less turnovers and less ground balls. We typically play our best lacrosse when winning the groundball battle. For us to compete outside of our local leagues, we will need raise our level of stickwork. This means the girls need to play catch, wall ball, use the rebounder and practice shooting over the summer. They should practice throwing and catching while running toward and away. They should catch over the shoulder and with their weak hands. The good news is that stickwork can be developed quickly with a concerted effort. I look forward to seeing the girls' development!! Third, I am told that the Long Island Yellow Jackets Club Teams that we played twice won everything at Beach Lax. They won the coveted "Crab Trophy" for most team wins. So we played the best! And, as they say, you can't be the best without beating the best! I hope one day we get that chance again. Fourth, the Bethesda Lacrosse Fall league is firming up again with more teams than last year. Games will be held at Holy Cross again. Our age group is 5th and 6th graders. I will be looking at the roster and seeing what adjustments can be made to preserve our team and what substitutes need to be made. I will report back. Fifth, 4 or 5 of you have not yet paid the $27 for Beach Lax. Checks made out to "Club Pink" and mailed to the address below. I covered the registration expense out of pocket, so please send it in when you can. If you are unsure, send me an email and I will confirm from my master list. Thanks.
