Trump’s office has not commented on the call, as the Washington Post’s Elise Viebeck, Jerry Markon, and Karen DeYoung report (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2016/11/14/trump-faces-backlash-over-appointing-bannon-as-a-top-aide-a-choice-critics-say-will-empower-white-nationalists/?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=37c663f446-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-37c663f446-145367789) . Dive Deeper: CSIS’s Anthony Cordesman today authored a new commentary: “Trump Takes Office: The National Security Agenda He Must Address by the End of the Coming Spring (https://www.csis.org/analysis/trump-takes-office/?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=37c663f446-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-37c663f446-145367789) .” Also see the Wilson Center’s Maxim Trudolyubov on “The Paradox of Russia’s Support for Trump (https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/the-paradox-russias-support-for-trump?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=37c663f446-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-37c663f446-145367789) .” ** China’s Open ------------------------------------------------------------ China today offered Donald Trump a “positive and open attitude toward cooperation,” as NBC News reports (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/china/china-offers-trump-positive-open-attitude-toward-cooperation-n683461?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=37c663f446-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-37c663f446-145367789) . The last thing the new president needs—or the country needs—is constant criticism. It is not just the new president who faces all of the challenges, it is the United States and its allies.” ------------------------------------------------------------ —CSIS’s Anthony H. The 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee passed away yesterday and will be remembered for his multi-instrumental musicianship, his stage presence and perhaps most of all, his ability to make other musicians look great even though he himself was a superstar. Here’s a list of the musicians Leon played with: Jan and Dean, George Harrison, Delaney Bramlett, Ringo Starr, Doris Day, Elton John, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, the Byrds, Barbra Streisand, the Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Badfinger, Frank Sinatra, the Band, Bob Dylan, J. J. Cale, B.B. King, Dave Mason, Glen Campbell, Joe Cocker, the Rolling Stones and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Of Russell’s collaborations, it was his work with Joe Cocker that really made me smile. The 1970 “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” tour was legendary. While Cocker was colossal on vocals, it was Russell clad in his funky top hat that often stole the show. Banging out impossibly groovy, organic notes on piano and guitar, Russell propelled the legendary 20 piece band’s huge sound. Cool doesn’t begin to describe Leon Russell in this clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFHA15B8iNI&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=37c663f446-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_11_14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-37c663f446-145367789) . ** Feedback ------------------------------------------------------------ I always welcome and benefit from your feedback.
