Each year, The Aspen Institute partners with an urban school district to bring The Aspen Challenge to a new city.

In 2017, The Aspen Challenge has launched a partnership with the School District of Philadelphia. Twenty teams from across the city are participating in the competition on Wednesday, March 29.

The teams will present their solutions to a panel of distinguished judges, including event speaker Wayne Kimmel of SeventySix Capital, who select top teams based on creativity, feasibility, sustainability and teamwork. The winners of the Philadelphia competition will be invited to present their work at a national Aspen Institute event.

Through Microsoft Philanthropies, our partners at the Microsoft Reactor Philadelphia donated 50 Surface tablets to several local nonprofit organizations.

During a ceremony at the Reactor last Friday, the tablets were distributed to representatives from After School Activities Partnership (ASAP), Cradles to Crayons, Eagles Charitable Foundation, First Hand, People’s Emergency Center, Riverbend Environmental Education Center and the West Philadelphia Skills Initiative.

Microsoft originally provided the devices to Democratic National Convention Committee staffers to help plan the Convention, which took place in Philadelphia last July.
