News, updates, resources & job opportunities from JVC Northwest Monthly Newsletter from JVC Northwest with news, updates, resources, & job opportunities. Happy Easter! During this special season, I am filled with gratitude for our wonderful JVC Northwest community and wish all of you an Easter season filled with abundant blessings. Recently I had the privilege of joining our Jesuit Volunteer AmeriCorps members in Yakima, along with others in the Washington state AmeriCorps movement to receive a Proclamation from Mayor Kathy Coffey naming April 4, 2017 as National Service Recognition Day. On April 3, Rebecca Sutton, our AmeriCorps Program Manager, joined others in a community service project at Catholic Charities of Yakima, a JVC Northwest partner agency, in honor of the fifth annual Mayor, County, and Tribal Recognition Day for National Service. Our office also worked with St. Labre, our partner school in Ashland, Montana, to secure a signed National Service Proclamation recognizing AmeriCorps members in Big Horn County, Montana on April 4th. We are very grateful for the recognition and support of our local leaders who joined more than 4,500 leaders across the country to unite behind a single cause: National Service. JVC Northwest is proud to be part of the National Service movement. Click here to learn more about the Mayor, County, and Tribal Recognition Day for National Service and how you can educate your legislators about the importance of national service and the impact of our AmeriCorps partnership. Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) Student Leadership Conference June 27-29, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass. College of the Holy Cross is hosting the Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) Student Leadership Conference this summer (June 27-29). The theme of the conference is Principles in Crisis: Refugees and Responsibility. Just as refugees are compelled to cross borders by conditions of vulnerability, so too are we morally compelled to respond to human suffering wherever it exists. This conference is an excellent opportunity to engage and network with students, staff, and faculty from various Jesuit Universities, as well as with local and national community partners. The conference will feature keynote sessions led by Dr. Michael Barnett (George Washington University), Dr. David Hollenbach, S.J. (Georgetown University), Dr. Mark Potter (Newton Country Day School, Kino Border Initiative), and Dr. Stephanie Russell (AJCU). For any questions regarding conference registration and/or proposal submission, feel free to email juhan2017@holycross.edu. To learn more about the conference or to register, click here.
