Dear Members of the Board, I am very pleased to inform you that former South Carolina Governor David Beasley was officially appointed as the next Executive Director of the World Food Programme by the Secretary General of the United Nations on Wednesday. As previously mentioned, we have been working with Governor Beasley, the Administration, Congressional supporters and Ambassador Nikki Haley to secure approval of the nomination. I am confident that David Beasley will be an excellent Executive Director of WFP and strong partner of WFP USA. Following are links to the WFP USA and Beasley statements that were issued following announcement of the appointment: WFP USA official statement<https://wfpusa.org/news-releases/statement-from-wfp-usas-president-and-ceo-on-david-beasley-being-named-the-new-head-of-wfp/> and Governor Beasley's statement<https://www.facebook.com/david.m.beasley.14/posts/10210989740753211> . I am also pleased to report that we welcomed our first WFP USA Zero Hunger Ambassador—Natalie Coughlin<https://wfpusa.org/news-releases/world-champion-swimmer-natalie-coughlin-joins-world-food-program-usa-as-newest-zero-hunger-ambassador/>, a 12-time Olympic medalist and the most decorated female swimmer in history. She is traveling to Uganda this week with Erin Cochran, our Communications VP, to learn more about WFP's work in the field, specifically focusing on refugees from South Sudan, school meals and small scale agriculture. ESPN will produce an exclusive story about Natalie and her trip upon her return to the US. Natalie will be an very effective spokesperson and advocate for WFP / WFP USA. Thanks again for your support and commitment to helping alleviate hunger. All the Best, Rick Richard Leach President & CEO World Food Program USA 1725 Eye Street NW, Suite 510 Washington, DC 20006 T 202.627.3737 F 202.530.1698 rleach@wfpusa.org<mailto:jcorum@wfpusa.org>
