Per my earlier email, we have been informed by our insurance broker that Kathleen’s health insurance coverage ends as of the date of divorce - i.e., last Friday, April 14th. They can no longer legally cover Kathleen under your policy if you are no longer married. That said, they have not terminated her coverage as of today so she still is technically covered, but Kathleen has 30 days from the 14th of April to sign up and establish new coverage. If she doesn’t do it within 30 days she will go without coverage until the next open enrollment period. Unfortunately, you won’t even be able to pay for her coverage beyond the 30th of April even if you wanted to and there is no COBRA provisions for a business of our size so Kathleen should establish coverage immediately to avoid any problems. She can sign up by going to www.dchealthlink.com <http://www.dchealthlink.com/> which is the Obamacare exchange for DC and the same way we purchase our insurance. We have the highest level CareFirst plan offered by the exchange if she wants to keep the same level of coverage. The girls’ insurance is not affected and will remain as is. Let me know if you want Joan or me to do anything on this. Eric D.
