Here you go board! Don’t forget our next Board meeting on April 20 at 12. We’ll do it here at our office (4601 Concord Pike, Wilm. DE 19803) and have dial in information for folks unable to join. I’ll send around the documents late next week or the Monday before the meeting. Thank you! /ja Recap: On March 31, the VP and Dr. Biden spoke at the News Journal’s Imagine Delaware conference on Preventing Child Abuse. About 100 people were in attendance. Coverage here: http://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/2017/03/31/imagine-delaware-tackles-longterm-effects-child-abuse/99702220/ <http://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/2017/03/31/imagine-delaware-tackles-longterm-effects-child-abuse/99702220/> On April 1, the BBF ran three programs at the Red Clay School District’s child abuse prevention conference. We had 32 people in our Protecting Children in an Online World seminar and 18 people in Stewards of Children. Coverage here: http://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/local/2017/04/01/schools-help-train-parents-fight-abuse/99906144/ <http://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/local/2017/04/01/schools-help-train-parents-fight-abuse/99906144/> On Wednesday, we extended an offer to Claudine Malone to join the BBF team as program coordinator. She’s a retired New Castle County police officer, a current law student at Delaware Law, a certified Stewards of Children facilitator, and an incredible woman. She will primarily handle the delivery and expansion of Stewards of Children, but will also help with outreach more generally. We’re incredibly excited for her to join the team. Also on Wednesday, Patty met with Dan Whyte, the CEO of the National Society of Student Athletes. Through a partnership he has with the NFL Alumni Association, he runs a few football camps in Delaware each summer. He and Patty are working on a plan where we’d deliver our internet safety programming to his campers and provide Stewards of Children training for his coaches/counselors. This partnership could develop in to something truly national in the next few years. On Friday, Josh and Patty with with Matt Burrows, superintendent of Appoquinimix School District and head of the Delaware School Superintendent’s Association. Matt supports our legislative efforts to change the way teacher licenses are revoked and also our efforts to require Stewards of Children for all teachers in Delaware. We left the meeting with a firm commitment from him to train all of his teachers in Stewards of Children before the Erin’s Law fully goes in to effect. She made an important point in her opening remarks. Jill Biden said: “Child sexual abuse is an issue that people would rather not talk about, that people would rather forget. Nothing unsettles a room full of people more quickly than talking about child sexual abuse, which is exactly what Beau did." It’s true. Everyone wants to believe children are growing up in a loving, nurturing, and safe environment, but unfortunately that’s not the case -- especially now that the opioid epidemic has ravaged families in Delaware and around the country, leading to an uptick in child neglect. In 2016, the Delaware Division of Family services fielded 20,778 calls reporting child abuse. That’s why educating and training community members on how to stop child abuse is key. On Saturday, the Beau Biden Foundation, in partnership with the Red Clay School District, hosted two workshops at the Cab Calloway School of the Arts. The Stewards of Children® program, designed to to give adults 5 easy steps to protecting, including practical advice on preventing abuse, recognizing and reporting abuse. We also hosted Internet Safety - Keeping Kids Safe Online, where parents learned important tips like how to monitor their children’s online communications, how to report predators, and how to talk to children about cyberbullying. We need to remember that it’s not children’s responsibility to protect themselves -- it’s ours. April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Add your name to support Beau’s mission and continue to protect the most vulnerable among us. <https://u4796854.ct.sendgrid.net/wf/click?upn=33xIkxYvDM7N-2Blaob-2FkTt9Hl6Hwt93F9lq2OucZR8K-2FUgxqQOn52yFx2jPoGcTqZ6wDHvill31boW5FJZa2DEqETlMcon8UXmk6jXTofpLgnr5j02TtTXSXPQ8JyFr7vaAhk8eimTiD-2FMaNTH299uSGoB6AwkcgZ4RFgsnXUDagDqaHMPf1ui3ENSjOyfU3A4Vs1-2FbWg3T0eO0R4FPhDKtKDlY9cyWsSKqhgrXiBfg3eEWvxV1H0yM0EctjXb6P53N2Ys03EZf4Be-2BibwmEPBqDbaZTsjB7UVWHb-2BmV20M0-3D_965qgnSKMGnfdrpX9iBiZl20XmiOnDcUJ2KfoxcqP6U83Q7MwPJUOLpfjy7cPBuOZFyiq5jJr57JE5ToYJZpqZig9wpsSKtxxEwm5SkbUuO5X75B7FZvm5Cernsz9lOCteXZqti3i-2BcvHHZlfcjIMTUM3EBkKGkqbsS93EzTrOa-2BfJJ-2BtWzvRYqIBLnDeFEcjuwJVIv7rtbq7FlBeL6rkOVuehI-2FxMGWPa7H6w5-2B53wvLufItNdNVzVKRXBaIuu2LazzdfkOuwHZzXcgVulYozXO8A9twP1rfjOiZvACwamTW3mzGq-2FBTO7nGaHNwTZTap5n08R9e7hncKwBwtuZJVlotzIBvO88voLGTfeDTdDPh6VR7fdDqN9FggPxwPFLGVyKmcp701FXCXePIqjqZg-3D-3D> Thank you, Patty Patty Dailey Lewis Executive Director The Beau Biden Foundation P.S.
