Hi! WIR attached. Reminder: The BBF board meeting is on Thursday, 4/20 at the BBF office in Wilmington. I’m just about done the board meeting packet, and will send no later than Saturday. The only thing that won’t be included is the final cash on hand numbers from the Delaware Community Foundation account. They won’t be in the office until Monday, and I don’t have access to those numbers easily. Thanks, have a great weekend! /ja 1. On Saturday, April 8, the VP and Dr. Biden attended a BBF/Philadelphia Flyers Child Abuse Prevention day at the Wells Fargo Center. The pre-game brunch went very well, with the VP and Dr. Biden spending quality time with BBF donors and prospects. Most importantly, they both had great conversations with the Cowhey family, who are the single biggest raisers for the BBF (30k in 2015-16 and a pledged 75k in 2017). 2. On Monday, Patty presented our NetSmartz training to over 300 students at St. Elizabeths and about 15 St. E’s parents. The feedback from students and teachers was excellent, which we’ll be including in our EOM wrap up email to our grassroots list. 3. On Tuesday, Patty presented our “Online Safety in a Digital Age” program to 30 parents at Forewood Elementary School. 4. On Wednesday, Patty and Josh ran a Stewards of Children training in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse Delaware and the Rodel Foundation. 37 people attended - including two members of the DE National Guard and 4 staff from Del. Tech. NBC 10 covered the training. (Can’t find the video, but it appeared on the 6:00 news on Wednesday). 5. This week, Patty and Josh met with the golf committee and the silent auction committee for the 3rd annual BBF golf and tennis invitational to be held on September 25. They also met with the race director for the November 18 BBF 5k on the Riverfront and locked in a small fundraising event with the Kenny Family ShopRite in Brandywine Commons. 6. Del. Tech is finally coming around on their pledge to train the entirety of the faculty and staff in Stewards of Children. Josh worked with Del. Tech’s VP of Human Resources to establish online Stewards trainings and scheduled two additional in person trainings in April (one in Sussex Co., one in New Castle Co.). 7. Email Subj: Protecting Kids Online Date: April 12 From: The Beau Biden Foundation Today’s children experience the internet in a way most of their parents never did. It’s omnipresent in their lives. Kids are extremely comfortable with ever-evolving digital technologies and social media platforms. They use them at school, for entertainment, and as a way to interact with friends. But the hyper-familiarity of the internet in kids’ lives can lead them to overlook its very real dangers. That’s why the Beau Biden Foundation is partnering with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to bring online safety to Delaware’s schools and educate parents. Over the last year, we’ve trained over 6,000 kids in this internet safety program. We've already teamed up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware for a Teen Tuesday Takeover. During the event, teens presented the Smartphone Savvy Workshop to younger club members. They worked to educate kids on the “do’s” and “don’ts” of online usage and created a club safety pledge. Protecting children in an online world is one of the pillars of the Beau Biden Foundation because the internet can make it easier for children to be exploited and bullied. It’s up to parents to help children protect their online safety and reputation, and teach them to be good digital citizens. Visit the Netsmartz parent and guardian section and learn tips on how to make sure your children practice internet safety. <https://www.netsmartz.org/Parents?blm_aid=52895> Thank you, The Beau Biden Foundation 8.
