Kathleen and Hunter Please see information below. I am happy to have Maisy join us. I have enjoyed getting to know her. Looking forward to our trip. With gratitude Philip McAdoo, Ed.D Director of Equity, Justice and Community Sidwell Friends School 3825 Wisconsin Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20016 Phone: 202-537-2406 Mobile: 202-430-0095 “When those who have the power to name and to socially construct reality choose not to see you or hear you, whether you are dark-skinned, old disabled, female or speak with a different accent or dialect than theirs…when someone describes the world and you are not in it, there is a moment of psychic disequilibrium, as if you looked into a mirror and saw nothing.” - Adrienne Rich From: Shoshanna Sumka <SumkaS@sidwell.edu<mailto:SumkaS@sidwell.edu>> Date: Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 12:02 PM To: Philip McAdoo <mcadoop@sidwell.edu<mailto:mcadoop@sidwell.edu>> Cc: Betty Hernandez <HernandezB@sidwell.edu<mailto:HernandezB@sidwell.edu>> Subject: Re: South Africa Update #1 South Africa here we come! We are excited to announce that we have 13 students (2 chaperones- myself and Debario Fleming) participating in the 2017 South Africa Global Studies trip. All of our coordinators in South Africa have made arrangements to accommodate our group. Once we are in Africa, we will be partnering with Ubuntu Education Fund to allow for the students to have a more authentic experience working in the townships and learning from their peers about their shared experiences. I will continue to give you updates on the progress of the planning of our trip. We plan to have a parent meeting early May. Please send a copy of your child’s passport (scan and email or send to school and we can make a copy) and make sure that all the information is current and that it does not expire before or 3 months after June 17, 2017. For those of you who do not have passports, please start this process ASAP. Please also confirm the spelling of your child’s name as it appears on their passport so that I can secure our plane reservations. South Africa is one of the most anticipated of the Global Education trips. We take the responsibility of sharing this experience with your children very seriously and look forward to a trip full of service, fun and great memories! Please see a draft of our schedule below.
