Dear Members of the Board, Following the 60 Minutes piece on Sunday, Scott Pelley promoted the segment on CBS ThisMorning and said the kind of things one would hope anyone with his kind of profile would say. For example: "WFP is about the only hope these people have<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRUorxkpKg4>"; The principles of the World Food Programme - that no one should go to bed hungry - well, "those principles are now under threat [due to the proposed budget cuts]<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYK2W3B28AQ>". Please share these clips on your social channels and with policymakers and influencers in your network. Any promotion you can provide is valuable and helpful to our efforts right now. Speaking of getting the word out about the impact of the proposed budget cuts, Rick yesterday published an oped on HuffPos<http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/58d1320be4b0537abd9574c3>t, saying: This year, the U.S. provided 24% of WFP's total needs of $8.6 billion in 2016. With continued leadership from the U.S, and increased contributions from donors in Europe and the Middle East, WFP was able to reach 76 million of the world's most vulnerable people across 81 countries with life-saving food assistance in 2015. While burden-sharing has increased, funding has not kept pace with growing need. These are not abstract numbers. Actual human lives hang in the balance. Any reduction in support for these programs will affect the world's most vulnerable-mainly women and children, who make up over 80% of the people helped by agencies like WFP. U.S. leadership in the fight against global hunger has always represented the best of who we are-and the world needs nothing but our best right now. Please share this oped with your network and, as always, we value your feedback. -Erin Erin Cochran Vice President, Communications [cid:image003.png@01CEB391.849D1540]<http://usa.wfp.org/> 1725 I Street NW, Suite 510, Washington, DC 20006 202.627.3931 Direct | 202.627.3737 Main | 202.510.6200 Cell ecochran@wfpusa.org<mailto:ecochran@wfpusa.org> | www.wfpusa.org<http://www.wfpusa.org/>
