Forbes Article: We Shouldn't Be Eliminating OPIC, We Should be Putting it On Steroids ------------------------------------------------------------ Email not displaying correctly? Dear Colleagues, Please take a look at my recent Forbes article, We Shouldn't Be Eliminating OPIC, We Should be Putting it On Steroids (http://csis.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=833ec271d60c6750d9c3baaac&id=f2f34977ae&e=e55aaf27de) . The Trump Administration’s budget proposal to close the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) comes at a time when the world is doing the exact opposite. A project I recently directed (http://csis.us11.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=833ec271d60c6750d9c3baaac&id=d7e653d294&e=e55aaf27de) projected that the “development finance sector” will outpace all forms of foreign aid sometime in the next 5 years. Development finance institutions like OPIC should be front line agencies. OPIC operates at zero net cost to the US taxpayer and returns a profit to the government every year. OPIC supported projects have generated more than 275,000 American jobs and $75 billion in US exports since 1974. In the last two decades, OPIC has provided $6.5 billion in direct loans to U.S. small businesses. By improving prosperity and job prospects in challenging environments, OPIC reduces the incentive for people to leave their homes, either as migrants or extremists. I hope you can find the time to read this, and welcome any feedback that you might have. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Thanks again!
