The Importance of AmeriCorps

This week, we celebrated the fifth annual Mayor, County, and Tribal Recognition

On Tuesday April 4th, more than 4,520 local leaders -- representing more than 194
million Americans -- united behind a single cause: National Service.National service
is necessary, vital, and an important part of the lives of millions of Americans
who benefit from the work we do. And more than 4,500 leaders around the nation
agree. This is an incredible demonstration of bipartisan support for the value
and impact of national service in our nation.

JV AmeriCorps members, partner agencies, and JVC Northwest staff were present at
the Yakima City Council as Mayor Kathy Coffey (see photo) officially issued a Proclamation
naming April 4, 2017 as National Service Recognition Day at the City Council Meeting.
Catholic Charities of Yakima, a JVC Northwest partner agency, hosted a service event
to celebrate the occasion.
Local leaders in Boise, Idaho and Spokane, Washington celebrated this National Service
Recognition Day. Big Horn County, Montana Commissioners signed the National Service
Proclamation recognizing AmeriCorps members in the county.
