Beau Biden was not interested in being a politician. He was a public servant who believed, to his very core, that holding elected office was the best way to achieve his primary goal: to help people who have no one else to turn to. As he would always say: "We're going to be a voice for the voiceless."

And there was nothing Beau took more seriously, or more personally, than protecting the most vulnerable among us: children.

Beau's death was an unbelievable loss -- to his family, his friends, his colleagues, and to the state he served for so long. But today, I'm proud to be the executive director of the Foundation dedicated to preserving his legacy.

I worked for and with Beau Biden for almost a decade. He believed that every child deserves to grow up happy, healthy, and safe. He believed that child abuse is 100% preventable, and that it is our obligation to identify and stop such abuse wherever it exists. And that's the mission of this foundation: We believe that child abuse can be prevented through effectively educating adults and children, developing the next generation of child welfare professionals and strengthening child protection laws around the country.

The Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children, in conjunction with Darkness to Light, Delaware Law School, and Delaware Technical and Community College, is launching our first child abuse education program. During the month of April, we'll be holding a series of "Stewards of Children" training sessions at Delaware Law School and Del Tech. If you do not live in Delaware or are unable to attend in person, the two-hour trainings that teach adults how to identify, prevent, and responsibly respond to child abuse are also available online.
