In 2015, Distributed Sun closed several tax equity investments with its C&I focused
tax equity fund. With the permanent extension of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC),
Distributed Sun is launching a second fund and actively seeking more tax equity
investment opportunities in 2016 and beyond.
The current fund targets solar PV projects ranging from 500kW to 5MW in the C&I
market segment with both rated or unrated off-takers. The company is launching a
second fund focused on larger portfolios and projects in the latter half of 2016.
Together with DLA Piper, Distributed Sun authored the 'Tax Equity Investments Overview
- Frequently Asked Questions' (TEI Overview) to outline the opportunity and clarify
attendant issues for new investors interested in tax equity investments. The TEI
Overview outlines the tax-based incentives, investor qualifications required, and
general investment guidelines. The TEI Overview also covers investment structures,
risk mitigation, benefits to individual and corporate investors among other tax
equity investment features.
