Enough is enough, Robert.

It may be 2016, but women’s economic equality is stuck in the past. A new report confirms it: Women in the United States are paid just 79 cents for every dollar paid to men, with some women of color facing an even wider gap.

Equal pay for equal work is about basic justice – and it’s time all my colleagues in Congress acted like it. A number of us are taking a stand against the wage gap, but we need you to stand with us. Together we can make a statement that pushes this issue out of the past.

When a woman is paid less than a man for doing the same work, it’s not just wrong – it can be devastating for her family. Those missing 21 cents add up to an annual loss of nearly $11,000. That can mean the difference between being able to buy food for her child or afford the rent. No one should be forced to make that choice.

I am a cosponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would finally give women the tools to fight back against this discrimination. I will keep up my support as long as it takes to win equal pay for all women, but I need to know that you’re with me too.

Unless we take bold action, equal pay for equal work will continue to be a hollow notion. I don’t believe in empty promises, Robert. I believe in fairness, and I believe you do too.
