And there is no Jimi Hendrix without Little Richard, Elvis and James Brown, nor is there a Sly and the Family Stone. There is no Funkadelic or Meters without Sly. Which brings us to Prince. There is no Lenny Kravitz, D’Angelo, or Bruno Mars without Prince. Today, one of the most important links in the DNA chain of modern American music died. Because he was larger than life, most people don’t think of Prince as someone who loved being part of a band, or, playing music with the people he looked up to (even though Prince’s heroes thought of Prince as the hero.) Like when Prince joined Sly Stone’s bass player Larry Graham a few years ago on stage in a small New York club to perform Sly’s seminal 1969 hit “Thank You." I’d like to smile and think there is a jam like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfqO-rt0BDI) that is going on right now somewhere where Prince is just one of the guys in the band along with James Brown, Elvis and Jimi. Maybe Janis is even singing backup. ** Feedback ------------------------------------------------------------ I always welcome and benefit from your feedback.
