Hunter- Forgive the second email of the day, but I wanted to share one more important story that surfaced after we sent our GLOBAL GAB earlier today. This morning, the NY Times reported on a confidential questionnaire that the Trump Transition Team sent to the State Department focused on Africa. The document contained a number of questions like: * "Why should we spend these funds on Africa when we are suffering here in the U.S.?" * "Is PEPFAR worth the massive investment when there are so many security concerns in Africa?" (As you know, PEPFAR - America's signature HIV/AIDS relief program started by President Bush - has saved more than 11 million lives.) * "How does U.S. business compete with other nations in Africa? Are we losing out to the Chinese?" Some of these questions seem informational, but others are rather concerning, given how investments in Africa directly impact our national security and economic interests. And the tone on issues like PEPFAR contradicts Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson's endorsement of the program and his other statements in support of foreign assistance during this past week's hearing. http://action.usglc.org/site/R?i=PJvsAVP0Kx7CbUtpaua9pg We'll be continuing to not only watch but also engage on this issue. Thanks for your ongoing support.
