> Mom,
>
> Here's what I think I heard you say about the role you should play in this, the next campaign.
>
> Keeper of the Biden brand
>
> Penn, UD and the Beau Biden foundation will be laser focused on capitalizing on and extending the reach of the Biden brand. Not in a bad way - but for Penn and UD in particular, this is their golden ticket. Each will endeavor to create "new news" for their fledgling organizations over the coming months and years, freely and fully invoking JRB and Beau's work - and legacy - in the process. But individuals, and/or individual institution's agendas, is not what this effort is about.
>
> You will make sure that the spirit and the letter of what each is doing fits with the spirit and the letter of JRB and Beau. You will play the same role you always have: you will set the overall message and tone, you will exercise the same judgment, you will see what no one else does, you will connect dots for regular people, you will complete JRB's sentences (note for us: better than he would have :). You will make sure each institution is worthy of the name it carries. You will flag what needs to be flagged, expedite what can be advanced, and provide your trademark "gut check" that has allowed this family and our family business not just to weather any storm, but to thrive. You will make it all rhyme.
>
> No one is better positioned to keep the flame, to see the big picture, to advocate for JRB and Beau's legacy. Tying you too closely to the university as ED limits your ability to float among the three, to see everything, to make sure the Biden brand maintains its singularity and authenticity. it's not enough to give each institution a sheet of music and say "play." It takes more than that. You have to be close enough to conduct, to make sure they're all playing in concert, to make sure it rings true to the Biden name.
>
> You will do what you have always done, what makes you exceptional. You will manage the whole campaign. You won't be the head think tank expert or organizer - you'll hire the best organizer to set up the new institution. You won't write the grants at the foundation - you'll make sure the right people do, in the right voice, according to the right strategy.
>
> And you will make the top tier of the CW pay band that was discussed. Because no consultant in the world is more experienced in how to run a Biden campaign - private, public, or something in between - than you are. And no one has your track record.
>
> Love you. Hope this helps a little.
