Humanitarian Conditions in Sudan: From Darfur to Southern Sudan
A Discussion with Amer Daoudi,
World Food Program's Country Director in Sudan
From the ongoing crisis in Darfur to the upcoming Southern Sudanese Peace Referendum, current events in Sudan impact global peace and security. Learn about the humanitarian situation in one of the World Food Program's largest and most complicated operations. WFP's Sudan Country Representative, Amer Daoudi, will discuss the current humanitarian situation in Darfur and across Sudan, as well as WFP's projections for 2011. Mr. Daoudi will also address the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead as we approach the 2011 Southern Sudanese Peace Referendum.

Mr. Daoudi, a Jordanian national, currently serves as WFP's Country Director in Sudan. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Daoudi served for two and a half years as Director of the WFP Logistics Division, managing 2,500 national and international staff and maintaining oversight for the procurement and delivery of up to 5 million metric tons of food to more than 100 million beneficiaries on an annual basis.

Mr. Daoudi also established the WFP operations in response to the Tsunami emergency in 2004, the South East Asian Earthquake in 2005, as well as the conflict in Lebanon in 2006.
