Chris Coons for U.S. Senate ------------------------------- Dear R.hunter, Before the polls open tomorrow I wanted to take a moment to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support you've shown my husband, Chris, and our entire family during this campaign. It's been truly humbling for all of us. I'd be lying if I said the last nine months hadn't affected the dynamic of the Coons household at least a little, but Chris has continued to be such a great husband and wonderful father, even after the 14-hour days on the campaign trail. It helped that we actually made the decision to run for the Senate as a family. It was all we talked about for 48 hours straight! We talked about whether he could win and about the difference he could make on issues like unemployment, the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and Don't Ask, Don't Tell. But mostly we talked about the impact it would have on the kids. They were an active part of the discussion. We explained how hard the campaign was going to be and the sacrifices we'd all have to make, but sitting around the dining room table for a family meeting, they were unanimous and resolute – we had to do it. We knew it was going to be an uphill climb, but we believed in him and agreed that it was worth taking the risk. It's been a long nine months since that day, but it's made Michael, Jack and Maggie even more proud of their dad. They've done whatever they could to be supportive, whether that meant making sure he'd spent enough time on the phone that day, or marching in parades with him, or calling to alert us that a new negative television ad about him was shown during a Phillies game. Though the election was certainly upended the night of the primary, we've never – not for one second – taken Christine O'Donnell lightly. We prepared the kids for the inevitable negative ads and mailings, and while they're having lots of fun teasing their dad by calling him, "Rubber Stamp Man," the incessant O'Donnell assault on Chris' reputation hasn't dampened their enthusiasm for the campaign. For me, it only reinforced the importance of this election. I truly believe in my heart that there is no person better qualified than Chris to represent Delaware in the United States Senate. He'll be the independent voice we need, beholden not to President Obama, Vice President Biden or to the Democratic Party… but to Delawareans. So often people refer to it as Chris' campaign, but the reality is, it's really been so much bigger than that. I get tears in my eyes when I visit the campaign's field offices because I'm so humbled by people's deep belief in Chris and their willingness to give their time. I am reminded each and every that we couldn't have done this alone and win or lose tomorrow, I'll appreciate it forever. That said, I think we'd all greatly prefer to win so let's get out there tomorrow and vote for Chris! Thank you so much for your support!
