Thursday - October 28, 2010 Dear Parents,I am writing to inform you that my briefcase, containing my school laptop, gradebook, and many papers, was stolen on the night of Tuesday, October 26, when my car was broken into in my driveway. Many of the sixth graders’ assignments are here at school, but the theft has left me without record of the first quiz for Ms. Phillips’ and Mrs. Dennin’s classes, as well as several homework assignments from all the sixth graders. The loss of the homeworks, which are graded leniently and given mostly for the purpose of practice, should not prove a serious obstacle to providing a fair and accurate assessment for the first Trimester. As for the quizzes, there are also enough other major graded evaluations to make up a trimester grade. However, I have spoken with Jean Weitz (who will be returning from maternity leave in the coming week), and we think it is unfair to those students who feel that they did well on the first quiz to remove it from the trimester evaluation process entirely; also, it would be somewhat unreasonable to force all of the students to retake the quiz almost a month after it was initially given. As such, I will be offering the option to retake the first quiz to Ms. Phillips’ and Mrs. Dennin’s classes. Those who feel that they could perform strongly and boost their grade can come during DEAR, rehearsal period, or a scheduled after-school time and take the quiz again. The grade received on the retake will be used in their final trimester grade. Those who choose not to take the quiz again will face no penalty whatsoever; their trimester grade will just be calculated as if the first quiz had never happened. We ask that you discuss this option with your child in order that they might make the best decision possible. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks,Alex Stewart(Señor Stewie) 3825 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016 Tel: (202) 537-8100 Fax: (202) 537-8138
