Xi will speak before elite business and political leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos next Tuesday, just days before President-elect Donald Trump is sworn into office. Beijing will use the appearance in Switzerland to favorably contrast Xi and China with Trump and the United States, as CNBC’s Evelyn Cheng reports (http://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/13/davos-china-puts-xi-jinping-in-spotlight-before-trump-inauguration.html?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=2a336c572c-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_13&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-2a336c572c-145367789) . Spotify changed that, and artists now are compensated based on a micropayment system. Everyone benefits. In the old days we used to spend 10 bucks and own 12 songs (an album’s worth.) Now we fork over a ten spot a month and have access to EVERYTHING. And Spotify has great features like “New Music Friday” where you can discover scores of artists from all over the world easily and who you otherwise might not notice. Spotify also picks up on what YOU like. It learns what you like to listen to and makes suggestions. Somehow, this week, it picked up on the fact that I love funk music. And it put together a playlist for me that included essential tracks from the likes of Marvin Gaye, Aretha, Stevie Wonder, The Meters, Dr. John, Brick, Funkadelic, James Brown, The Ohio Players, The Brothers Johnson and more. Wow, a smile indeed, and it made me want to play this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnbdXWvmysg&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=2a336c572c-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_13&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-2a336c572c-145367789) . ** Feedback ------------------------------------------------------------ I always welcome and benefit from your feedback.
