Dear board members, This week, while in San Fran, Rick and I met the most incredible couple, Nishkaam and Poonam, who recently became supporters of WFP USA and the ShareTheMeal app in the most unconventional, but inspiring of ways. They got engaged in 2016 and started talking about how they wanted their wedding to reflect the kind of marriage they hope to have. Thinking beyond themselves and giving back to others. So they came up with a plan: Use the time and money that would have gone into a costly traditional Indian wedding to instead donate money to a cause close to their hearts — fighting hunger for vulnerable children. Before they get married on Valentine’s Day at the Los Angeles County Courthouse, their goal is to raise enough support to provide one million school meals for young children in Cameroon who are affected by the ongoing violence of Boko Haram. They’re calling it the #MillionMealsforLove campaign, and anyone can be a part of making their wedding gift dreams come true. In fact, we just got them featured in The New York Times<https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/11/fashion/weddings/the-pay-it-forward-wedding-when-i-do-becomes-i-do-more.html>! (This article will appear in the Sunday Wedding Section) To kick things off, they’ve personally donated $20,000 to provide the first 40,000 meals toward their one million meal goal. The rest is up to all of us. We would love your help in spreading the word to your networks about how people can help Nishkaam and Poonam reach their million meals goal. Here are two things folks can do to make an impact: — If you are reading this note on your phone, click here to download the ShareTheMeal app<http://support.wfpusa.org/site/R?i=bp4ALB97G2QLPozwBJjQzw> from the World Food Programme. Search for #MillionMealsforLove and choose whatever donation amount fits. It’s easy to use and a lot of fun. — If you are reading this note on a desktop, click here to make a donation to support their #MillionMealsforLove campaign.<http://support.wfpusa.org/site/R?i=xGbdzRkv9_P-p7yKoFOOlg> Whatever you donate will be credited to the campaign. When we met Nishkaam and Poonam this week they kept talking about what an honor it was to be involved with us in this campaign, but really, the honor is all ours. Thank you for providing whatever support you can. -Erin Erin Cochran Vice President, Communications [cid:image003.png@01CEB391.849D1540]<http://usa.wfp.org/> 1725 I Street NW, Suite 510, Washington, DC 20006 202.627.3931 Direct | 202.627.3737 Main | 202.510.6200 Cell ecochran@wfpusa.org<mailto:ecochran@wfpusa.org> | www.wfpusa.org<http://www.wfpusa.org/>
