Dear Friends of Kansas Commerce -

I hope this finds you well. I would like to inform you that I will be leaving my post as Secretary of Commerce today. It has been an honor to serve you and the state of Kansas in this capacity since November 2015. Together, we have been able to move Kansas forward. I am most grateful for the time you have dedicated to the advancement of the Kansas economy.

Some of the highlights of my tenure include our extensive marketing and business-to-business efforts whereby the Kansas Department of Commerce has been able to serve as an effective conduit, convener and connector of people and companies. We have instituted a system of metrics and ROI that, in many respects, mirror private sector initiatives. We have implemented programs such as Jump Start Kansas Entrepreneurs to help small businesses grow across the state. We highlighted manufacturing in Kansas through our Made in Kansas, the Heart of America campaign, and this was advanced with the Global Manufacturing Summit on April 6th of this year at Pittsburg State University. We started a Kansas Commerce Magazine which is now published each quarter, and we air Kansas Commerce television commercials nationally on Fox Business Channel, MSNBC, CNBC and Bloomberg. We have closely coordinated with our military installations and partners to bring better solutions for our transitioning soldiers into the Kansas workforce as well.

With your valuable support, we have been able to make a difference.

I will now be moving back into the private sector where I intend to pursue business opportunities.
