hi all- this time last year we were just warming up for the November town election. The town has made great progress the past 7 months. The opposition remains vocal and active even though they are weakening.

The current controversy that we need your help involves the town council passing a small property tax increase so that we can establish an annual town capital improvement budget of $100,000.

Nobody likes to pay more taxes but this tax would increase the $400,000 home's property tax by $50 a year- that is about $4.00 a month!!! and if your taxes are at the 1% cap then it will not impact you at all. The capital improvements will improve our property values by much more than the tax. The tax proposed would be 3 cents per $1000 of assessed value of you property, most all surrounding communities already tax at a higher 5 cents per $1000. Our request is modest

The Finance Committee of the town and the Long Beach Town Council passed the increase. The opposition has circulated a petition with 100 signatures that has caused the State of Indiana to conduct a hearing no set for September 7th at 10AM at the community center.


The tax would allow the town to plan needed capital improvements to the Stop 24 pumping station, the John Lloyd Wright Community Center improvements, Stop improvements, firefighting equipment and on.....

I am asking that you consider signing the petition. For ease of circulation I am attaching a copy of the petition along with a fact sheet explaining its purpose. Ultimately we think the town has been neglected and we need to rehabilitate and spruce up to continue to the beautiful community we are.

If you could print this attached petition and have all homeowners in your home sign we will arrange to pick it up if you leave in your mailbox with my name on it. Just let me know that it is signed and ready for pickup. If you prefer you can leave in my mailbox at 2005 Nethercliff Way LB, Go into Stop 21, make left up Silvertip, at top of hill make left on Idlewood. Our house is the third on the right on the corner of Nethercliff and Idlewood. Mailbox is on Idlewood right in front of the house. If you are not able to get it to us in person you could scan and email the signed copy back to me as an alternative. We need to get these back by this Sunday September 4th as the hearing is set for Wednesday the 7th.

Also if you are able to make the hearing on Wednesday the 7th at 10AM it would be great! We are sure the opponents of this tax will be out in full force.
