President Peter Salovey has created a committee to recommend a new dean. He has asked me to chair this committee. The other members are Professors Stephen Carter, Amy Chua, Jon Macey, Claire Priest, Kate Stith, and Jim Silk.

Traditionally, the selection of a new dean has been used by the School as an occasion on which to take stock of where we have been and where we might like to go. The Law School engages in a moment of collective deliberation as we think about whom might best lead the community over the next five years. We need to think about the problems we are likely to confront, as well as about our strengths and weaknesses.

The committee will be talking to the members of our community who are now within the School: faculty, students, professionals and staff. The alumni, too, are an important part of our community and we welcome your participation in our deliberative process. I personally want to extend an invitation to you to send me by email any thoughts or comments you might have; please use the subject line DEAN SEARCH COMMITTEE. Of course, you should also feel free to convey your views to any member of the committee.

We look forward to hearing from you as we all consider what is in the best interest of the school going forward.

Sincerely,

Paul W.
