The updates are intended to provide a quick snapshot of fundraising results, pertinent meetings, and activities and events that will impact our outreach to individuals, corporations and foundations. This first update provides information on notable gifts to date and Q1/Q2 results. We will report on fundraising results at the end of each quarter, and will send the Development Update monthly. RECENT ACTIVITIES AND NEWS: * Bank of America is considering a major, multi-year commitment in support of WFP's work in the humanitarian space that would involve capacity and asset-building programs. They have indicated an interest in announcing this commitment at President Obama's Refugee Summit on September 20 in New York. * Hunter Biden arranged a meeting at WFP USA with CEFC China Energy, in which Rick provided a detailed overview of WFP's work. Hunter is following up with the company regarding a potential commitment. * Tony Fratto and his team have been working with WFP USA on an approach to GE for technical assistance and funding for WFP's innovative new Energy Efficiency Program, a project of WFP's Innovation Accelerator. * Carl Stern approached PepsiCo CEO, Indra Nooyi, about considering a new partnership opportunity with WFP. Once she has assigned someone in the company to pursue the opportunity, Carl will make the introduction to WFP. * UPS arranged a meeting for Rick with Henry Schein CEO, Stan Bergman, on September 21 in New York. * PepsiCo Foundation is moving forward with a possible $5M grant in support of school feeding programs in several countries. WFP USA is proceeding to draft an agreement. This grant is expected to close at the end of 2016. * Rick and the WFP USA staff, in collaboration with WFP's Southern Africa Regional Bureau, have developed a concept for a $10M "transformational project" in Zambia that will be presented to a major individual donor later this month. * Drew Barrymore has signed on to promote the Share the Meal app around a World Food Day campaign in mid-October. The app has new features which makes it easy to form or join teams, and allows users to raise funds for school meals for special occasions, such as birthdays or anniversaries.
