Friends,
I am writing to you on behalf of Ms. Sumka about engaging with our wider DC community for the Sidwell Friends School 60 community service graduation requirement. You are invited to go to Ms. Sumka’s office to discuss your interests and passions. We will work together to find a social justice project for you.
Ninth graders will be getting an email from me soon about signing up for service field trips to community partners three times throughout the year.
Tenth graders need to start to think about and start planning what you will do for your service requirement. You may see Ms. Sumka during your free period to brainstorm ideas.
Juniors will most likely be well involved in their community projects or have an idea of what they’d like to do. The contract (pink form) must be submitted to Ms. Sumka no later than April 1, 2017. The supervisor and student evaluations must be submitted by August 31, 2017.
Most seniors have completed the requirement, but there are still a few of you missing paperwork.  Please see Ms. Sumka if you received an individual email from me last week.
Attached you will find a brief list of some of the community partners and sites that Sidwell Friends School students have worked with in the past. Please contact them directly about setting up your independent volunteer project. Required forms can be found outside Ms. Sumka’s door (Room 222) and on the service learning website.
