AP photo composite by POLITICOClose At least one person in the White House remembers the “death panels” that Sarah Palin claimed were in the new health care law. On a conference call on Thursday, Vice President Biden told senior citizens whose children who are doctors and nurses to ask their kids, “Where have they seen the death panels being set up that have been talked about by some of the opponents?” “Where are these death panels?” Biden asked, incredulously. “What are they seeing out there?” Later calling such claims “scare tactics,” Biden told the seniors: “These rumors are pure malarkey. They’re myths, manufactured for political gain on the eve of a gigantic election, where a lot of people with good reason are discontent.” Biden told the people on the call that if they encounter a doctor at any time “who can tell you anything about death panels, pick up the phone and call. Pick up the phone and call.” “Nobody is going to come between you and your doctor,” he said. “I promise you. I guarantee you.” Got that in writing? Biden: 'I guarantee' House majority By MATT NEGRIN | 09/23/10 11:04 AM Share this story Facebook Twitter Digg Mixx Delicious Myspace Yahoo! Buzz Email Print AP Photo Vice President Biden promised Democrats on Thursday that they would keep control of the House and the Senate after the midterm elections. “I guarantee you we’re going to have a majority in the House and a majority in the Senate,” Biden said at a fundraiser for Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski. “I absolutely believe that.” Biden even suggested that the tea party’s primary victories could boost Democrats by rattling supporters who fear the conservative activists. “Maybe the best thing to happen to us lately is the tea party wins,” he said. “Maybe it’ll shake some of our constituency out of their lethargy.” Eric D.
