Before assuming this role, she served for two years as dean of multicultural affairs at Latin, becoming the first member of the school’s senior administrative team to focus exclusively on diversity issues. Prior to taking on these administrative roles, Frankie was a classroom teacher in both the lower and upper divisions at Latin. She also taught second grade at Horace Mann in Riverdale, New York, and served as Horace Mann’s lower school diversity coordinator. Other News Quaker Quote "It is 6:30 and supper is on the table. A pan has been beaten loudly but no signs of life appear except one dog, two cats, two turtles, innumerable white rats and voices floating through the trees from the field. I have just been drinking in the view from the porch, for me it's the choicest spot. The sun shining through the rain washed air and foliage makes a mirrored picture of the dark restless stream. There is something in the simple harmony of these woods which seems to epitomize certain fundamental qualities of life at its best and truest. The children promise to be delightful companions...they are so full of color, vitality, and spontaneity. Each one is so different. I shall try to give each one a little special attention and get better acquainted with their differing needs. Don't think I am indulging in any illusions about them. Each one has kicked over the traces at some time during the day, but I hope to be able to help them catch something of the quiet and harmony and simplicity of their surroundings. Without the demands of school and the excitement of vacation life, they ought to grow somewhat in the spirit as well as in body..." From a note written to Rebecca Nicholson by Vincent Nicholson in June of 1933 from the porch of the family cabin in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Vincent served as the first director of the American Friends Service Committee and Rebecca as its first employee, moving later to Washington, DC to work with the Rural Electrification Administration. Vincent and Rebecca are the great grandparents of SFS students Lucas and Rebecca Richie. US Wednesday Newsletter Submissions How to Submit an Article to the Wednesday Letter.
