Dear Truman Center Board of Directors, Please see the farewell note below from Bishop to the member community. Thank you, Carrie -- Carrie Kagawa Chief of Staff Truman Center for National Policy | Truman National Security Project ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Bishop Garrison <info@trumanproject.org> Date: Fri, Mar 1, 2019 at 10:15 AM Subject: Goodbye and Thank You To: <ckagawa@trumanproject.org> To view this email as a web page, go here. <https://tracking.cirrusinsight.com/90d54483-4a11-4485-8018-d1459e5be310/view-s6-exacttarget-com> To the Truman Community, It has been my absolute privilege to lead this organization for the past six months, and I sincerely thank the Boards for the opportunity to serve. I learned of Truman back in 2012 while on the Obama campaign. Mike Moschella and Mike Breen were all smiles as they explained that Truman was not a think tank but a membership organization of smart, sharp policy professionals with big hearts and big ideas. These members debated how our values should be reflected in thoughtful policy over beers and laughs. Following an interview with a colleague from DoD, Anthony Robinson, I would become a member myself in 2013. The Veterans Leadership Academy was rebranded into the more inclusive Defense Council - a group for defense policy wonks, veterans, intel professionals, and frontline civilians - we have today. Three distinct doors - Fellows, Partners, and the aforementioned Defense Council - that all lead into the same room of friends and allies. Truman has evolved into much more than an organization but a community of high performing, dedicated leaders who currently and well into the future will find themselves at the forefront of decision-making that will shape our nation for generations to come. We are no longer simply national security and foreign policy standouts. We are communicators, we are elected officials, we are doctors, we are lawyers, we are school board members and teachers, we are philosophers and entrepreneurs. We are parents, partners, and friends. We are every demographic imaginable. We are all Truman. And I couldn’t be prouder to have been a part of serving this community and its staff even for a short period of time. This has been an absolute dream I wouldn’t change for anything. March 15 will be my last day with Truman. I adore this staff and think the world of them. It has been a privilege to serve alongside them. I wish Jenna Ben-Yehuda, Truman’s new CEO and President, the best of luck. I know she is incredibly capable, as demonstrated by the Boards’ complete faith and support in her and her vision. I know she will help shape the future of this community, and I look forward to seeing it prosper under her leadership. You, the membership of Truman, have dedicated your lives and careers to service above self. From conventions to TruCon, from Presidential debates to debating at happy hour, from elections to No Exceptions, this community has grown from a single idea into something grand. I am deeply humbled having had the opportunity to serve you all, and I wish this organization, this membership, this community, the absolute best.
