Vadim, Please see below the final points we passed on to Braun, the reporter from the AP. These points were also clarified by a number of calls with Lawrence and the Braun and he has followed up to clarify both the nature of Hunter's "employment" as well as the fact that Hunter will not be lobbying. These clarifications are usually passed on to an editor and can sometimes be included in future iterations of the piece but are often not. It is, however, useful to clarify for longer term reference if the reporter chooses to write on the same topic again. Thanks - Ryan From: Pacheco, Lawrence Sent: Monday, June 02, 2014 12:41 PM To: Braun, Stephen S. Subject: RE: Apter email (Burisma Holdings) Steve: In addition to our conversation earlier, he are Burisma’s answers to your questions. As we agreed, I will not be quoted by name in the story but identified as a “spokesman” and the material is from “senior officials of the company.” Best, Lawrence. 1.1. Nikolai Zlochevskyi is a prominent Ukrainian and the owner of Burisma Holdings, among other business ventures. 1.2. The company has an experienced and talented management team with a mandate to develop and implement good corporate governance structures in line with best international practices to promote and strengthen Board and management accountability. 2.1. Burisma’s success in the gas market supports energy independence, national sovereignty and regional stability. As a corporate entity, Burisma does not take positions on political matters. 2.2. Burisma’s operations in Ukraine have not been impacted by recent unrest in parts of Ukraine. Production and drilling are unaffected. 3.1. Mr. Biden’s only role is to advise Burisma’s legal and compliance unit, including guidance on corporate governance standards. He will not lobby on behalf of the company. 3.2. Mr. Biden is a private citizen, a lawyer and investor and is involved with several global not for profit organizations. 3.3. Mr. Biden is one of several new members the company asked to join the Board of Directors, including Aleksander Kwasniewski, the former President of Poland, who will help provide strategic guidance on the global geopolitical environment, and Devon Archer, who will provide strategic expansion guidance based on his experience with investor relations and global stakeholder engagement. All of these board members share Burisma’s commitment to energy independence in Ukraine and expanding operations beyond Ukraine. 3.4. Board Chairman Alan Apter met Devon Archer through mutual business associates and invited him to join the Board. Mr. Archer then introduced Mr. Apter to Hunter Biden. He then, in his role as Chairman, recruited Mr. Biden to join the Board. Braun has a follow up question: Was Mr. Zlochevskyi consulted or did he have any role in approving Hunter Biden’s appointment to the board of directors? If we are comfortable providing the answer, I think we should do it. If we don’t answer I think it raises additional questions about the relationship between Mr. Zlochevskyi and board members (specifically Biden). Either way Braun wants to know if we are going to answer the question. Thank you.
