I met with Theresa and Adam from The Whelan Group yesterday. They are refining the “pitch piece” and are reviewing my internal communication for school leaders. The “tone and touch” is important to convey coherence, continuity, and confidence as we take big steps in furthering service to our schools. More to come on that.

I am also looking forward to TWG’s active and very practical role in assisting me in fundraising work in the near term. Mindful of the board meeting conversation around whether or not they would be introducing us to potential funders, we talked about this and they will - while at the same time we do our part. For the immediate term, Theresa and Adam are my fundraising colleagues and I am convinced the Network will be well served by them over the next few months.

I met with Greg Naleski this afternoon. I cannot adequately convey to you his graciousness in accepting the news which he was prepared to receive. He recognized the need to “re-start” – and agreed to the package offered: 2 weeks notice plus 4 weeks severance. Obviously his concern is for his family, and the uncertain timing involved in finding a new job. That being said, he has some attractive opportunities which he is pursuing. He also knows that many of you are at the ready to offer assistance, so good for him and thanks be to God for networks.

One further and very lovely note. I met today with Brian Ray who is the Director of Finance at Washington Jesuit Academy. In our role of “landlord” Bill Whitaker had already spoken to Brian about our closing down the DC office in the near future. Brian could not have been more kind or helpful in offers of assistance, sorting out details, etc. This of course is a reflection of the environment Bill has created and again, how good for us to be in a network that lives such a spirit of magnanimity.

A good day. Not easy, but so good.
